Metropolitan Remand Centre

PLEA’s program delivery has been impacted by restrictions in place to address the risks of COVID-19 entering the prison system. This has included the suspension of in-person program delivery in many cases. Information on this page may not reflect current operation.

PLEA’s presentations at the Metropolitan Remand Centre focus on preparing men on remand for the court process, and addressing family law and migration matters

Our Court and Legal Processes presentation is given weekly by our team of law student volunteers and deals with important topics such as working with lawyers, bail, trial processes and sentencing. The presentation is very accessible and our presenters field a variety of questions from the inmates each week.

Our Family Law and Migration presentations are delivered fortnightly. PLEA’s Family Law program provides information on divorce, parenting arrangements, division of property and family violence. Our Migration presentation covers common visa issues including how a conviction may impact a prisoner’s ability to remain in the country.
